First-Time
Authors Face Unique Challenges
First-time authors are often amazed at how difficult it is
to get a publisher to review their manuscripts or book
proposals. That's probably because they don't really understand
the publishing business or the way the system works.
The reason publishers
don't want to review the work of first-time authors has nothing
to do with the subject matter, writing
quality, style or content. It has everything to do with
the way books are marketed and sold.
Books only sell
when they are promoted, and the only person who can effectively
promote
a book is the author. First time authors don't seem
to fully appreciate what this means.
It means that the
author and publisher will only be able to recover their investment
(and maybe even earn a profit) if the AUTHOR is able to market
and promote the book effectively. That's a big gamble for
a publisher when the first-time author's marketing skills
are unknown.
First-Time Author Workshop
If you are a first-time
author and feel a need to understand all of this better,
we offer a comprehensive workshop -- live or via scheduled
teleconference. It covers all the areas an
author needs
to master -- writing, editing, publishing,
marketing, distribution, project management, and more.
